Mr. Weston holds a Master of Arts Degree in Community Planning from the University of British Columbia. He is a Member of the Canadian Institute of Planners and served as President of the Institute from 1982 to 1983.
Mr. Weston began his career in planning with North York in 1965 as a Planner. During the period of 1968 to 1974, Mr. Weston held various positions with the Province of Ontario. He started as a Planner with the Official Plans Section of the Ministry of Municipal Affairs and moved to the Subdivisions Section as a Senior Planner. Mr. Weston held the position of Assistant Manager in the Subdivisions Branch of the Ministry of Treasury and Economics. He also held the position of Manager of the Ontario Housing Action Program at the Ministry of Housing.
From 1974 to 1981, Mr. Weston was a partner in D.M. Consultants Limited where he acted as a Development Manager. Mr. Weston was a key contributor in the development of the Thornhill Community during which time he served as a member of the Developer’s Escrow Trust Committee and was chair of the Developer’s Committee on the Soft Service Levy.
Mr. Weston established a planning consulting practice in 1981, where he was president from its inception through to 2007. During his tenure as the president of Weston Consulting, Mr. Weston was responsible for client representation before approval agencies, municipalities, administrative tribunals and the courts. Mr. Weston has extensive experience as an expert witness, appearing before the Ontario Municipal Board, the Land Compensation Board, the Parkway Belt West Hearing Board, the Supreme Court of Ontario on matters of Judicial Review, the Federal Court of Canada, and the Legislative Committee of Cabinet. In addition, he was responsible for providing technical management on specific projects.
Currently, Mr. Weston functions in an advisory capacity on projects with Weston Consulting, translating his years of experience in the fields of planning and development to current situations.
