Yonge Street, Richmond Hill
Weston Consulting assisted with the proponent, High Street Developers Inc., in order to amend the Yonge-Weldrick Secondary Plan (OPA No. 130) and zoning by-law No. 264-82 to allow a mixed use development on the vacant site south of the intersection of Yonge Street and Harding Boulevard West in the Town of Richmond Hill. Amendments to the secondary plan and zoning by-law were required to permit an increase in the maximum building height and density.
The key design objective of this development is to ensure a comfortable pedestrian environment that will fit in with the existing neighbourhood as well as existing and future large scale developments on Yonge Street. It will also contribute to street life, an essential part of a sustainable urban core, with a mix of uses contemplated including restaurant and offices.
The proposed development limits the presence and impact of motor vehicles at ground level so the development can retain a garden and courtyard setting in proximity to the street. The garden is continued up into the buildings by use of large scale terraces at several levels that knit the design to the street and reinforce its pedestrian character. The project will be designed and constructed using the best environmentally responsible methods available.
